The village of Michamvi, is situated on a small, 10 km long peninsula on the south-east coast of the island. It consists of two parts: Michamvi-Pingwe and Michamvi-Kae.

Michamvi-Pingwe is found on the right side of the peninsula, facing the east and the open sea. Michamvi-Kae is found on the left side, facing west towards Chwaka Bay.

Michamvi Sunset Bay is situated close to Michamvi Kae. Coming from Zanzibar town or from the airport, it is a 1 1/4 hour drive on a good tarmac road. The last kilometre is on a sandy road. Taxis, as well as daladalas, (public minibus) can be used. For the guests of our hotel, transport to and from the airport and to other places of the island, can be arranged on request.

Michamvi Kae is traditionally a fishing village, with the men of the village going out each day on traditional boats to earn a living. The women of the village have set up seaweed farms in the shallow waters and harvest the seaweed on spring tides. This seaweed is dried and exported and can be found in many everyday items, such as toothpaste, cosmetics and ice cream.
